THE GREAT POWERS AND OTHER FACTIONS
Projection of power and the advancement of interests by those with a presence on the Red Planet are just as naked and covert as it is by the factions on Earth. One could easily imagine entire volumes devoted to any one nation's forces and (mis)adventures, but we must content ourselves with basic introductions herein.
The Great Powers
The nations composing the Great Powers on Mars are nearly identical to those who make up the Great Powers on Earth. They are the United States of America, the British Empire, France, the German Empire, Russia, and the new Asian power, Japan.
The Not-so-great Powers
There are, of course, other nations, power blocks, and entrepreneurial ventures with interests on Mars, though none have yet achieved the power and/or notoriety of the so-called Great Powers. Prominent among these lesser powers is the so-called Martian Free State.
Notable Groups and Associations
The League for the Advancement of Society through Technology is but one of many extra-national groups with interests on Mars. L.A.S.T. is a secret cabal of industrialists, scientists, and visionaries. Their principal industrial base is believed to be an island in the south Pacific sometimes called Island X, where may be found the shipyards in which the Nautilus was built. Their motto "The Last shall be First" is suggestive of an intent towards domination. To learn more about some of the League's members, click here
Notable Individuals include Gentlemen, Ladies, Adventurers, Sportsmen, Missionaries, and Other Less Savory Folk
The variety of folk who have come to seek their fortune, fame, or finale on the Red Frontier is staggering. All that humanity has to offer on Earth, and more, may be found on the Red Sands. On the whole, such a multitude is far too great to cover in a simple survey, so we shall, explore individuals and "types" as time and opportunity (and game scenarios and miniature availability) permit.
